Fort Smith Symphony

Evening Serenade

When: Back to Calendar January 26, 2013 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

ER-GENE KAHNG, VIOLIN

This concert features some of the most beautiful orchestral music ever written. Handel’s Water Music with its snappy rhythms and majestic melodies is a cornerstone of the Baroque concert repertoire.

The Arkansas Premiere of Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in D minor will treat the audience to the sound of beauty. Written when Mendelssohn was 14 years old, this work is a brilliant, virtuoso piece that stands alongside Mendelssohn’s famous E minor concerto.

Our soloist, Er-Gene Kahng, is Assistant Concertmaster of the Fort Smith Symphony and professor of violin at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. Following intermission, you will enjoy Johannes Brahms’ youthful Serenade No. 1, one of the most lyrical pieces from the Romantic period.

Program:

Handel:
Water Music Suite No. 2 in D major.

Mendelssohn:
Violin Concerto No. 2 in D minor (Arkansas Premiere)
Er-Gene Kahng, Violin
