Creativity for all
Recipient of the 2024 See, Think, Build Award from the Fort Smith Public Schools for 27 years of partnership.
Through its education programs, the Fort Smith Symphony aims to create lifelong creatives. Music education, especially when introduced at an early age, encourages critical thinking, promotes creative problem solving, and strengthens communication and empathy skills. Whatever students grow up to become, we hope these experiences help them approach the world with curiosity, confidence, collaboration, and imagination.
The Symphony’s education initiatives directly support STEAM education by demonstrating the intersection of artistic expression with discipline, mathematics, pattern recognition, acoustics, and innovation. Through live performances, classroom visits, and interactive learning experiences, students are introduced to concepts that reinforce both creative and analytical thinking. These programs help students understand that the arts are not separate from science and technology, but an essential part of a well-rounded education and a driver of innovation across every field.
Many students served through these programs have limited access to live orchestral music or arts enrichment opportunities. By bringing professional musicians directly into schools and community spaces, the Symphony removes financial and geographic barriers to arts education while creating meaningful cultural experiences for students and families across the region. These programs foster student engagement, inspire self-expression, and build connections that strengthen the cultural fabric of our community.
